On cold, winter days, we love to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate. Today, we turned one of our favorite beverages into one of our favorite sensory activities for kids and made Hot Chocolate Goop.
What is Goop? It is a non-Newtonian fluid. It acts like a liquid when it is being poured and acts like a solid when it comes in contact with something. You can grab Goop with your hand like it is a solid, but it will ooze out like it is a liquid.
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups of Corn Starch
- 1 Cup of Water
- 1 Envelope of Hot Chocolate Mix
- 1/3 Cup of Mini Marshmallows
Supplies:
- Shallow Bowl or Container
- Measuring Cups
- Mixing Spoon
Directions:
- In a shallow bowl or container, combine the corn starch and water. The mixture will be thick and hard to stir so mix the ingredients by hand.
- Add an envelope of hot chocolate mix to the mixture and stir until all of the ingredients are combined together.
- Add about 1/3 cup of mini marshmallows on top.
Hot Chocolate Goop is an ooey and gooey, sensory activity that your kids will love to play with and explore.

Such a cool idea. I would have to refrain my daughter from eating it though 🙂

The good thing about this play recipe is that all of the ingredients are edible so it is safe for children to taste.

Oh my goodness! I love this!
Hot chocolate is one of my all time favorite beverages. Nothing like a good cup of hot chocolate on a cold day. I need to put cornstarch on my grocery list to give this a try.
