Do you have extra cupcake liners in your cupboards or pantry? We love to use our extra cupcake liners to create simple crafts for kids like our Cupcake Liner Lion. To celebrate the first day of Spring, we used some colorful, striped cupcake liners to create a Cupcake Liner Butterfly Craft.
Supplies for a Cupcake Liner Butterfly Craft:
- Cupcake Liners
- Large Popsicle Stick
- Yellow Paint
- Paint Brush
- Googly Eyes
- Pipe Cleaner
- Scissors
- Glue
Directions for a Cupcake Liner Butterfly Craft:
- Paint the large popsicle stick. We used yellow paint but you can pick any color for your butterfly.
- While the paint is drying, fold each cupcake liner in half and then fold it in half again. We used a total of 6 cupcake liners for the butterfly’s wings.
- Glue 3 of the cupcake liners on each side of the unpainted or back side of the popsicle stick.
- Glue the googly eyes on the painted side of the popsicle stick.
- Cut a pipe cleaner in half and then fold it in half. Glue it to the unpainted side of the popsicle stick and curl the ends of the pipe cleaner.
Extend the Learning:
- Read books about about butterflies like Are You A Butterfly? by Judy Allen or Where Butterflies Grow by Joanne Ryder.
- Learn about the Life Cycle of a Butterfly at National Geographic Kids.
